Ben's Cornish Kitchen

Ben’s Cornish Kitchen (Issue 41 - July 2010)
West End, Marazion TR17 0EL
T:01736 719200

It really is a shame when the only negative that blights your experience is out of your hands, out of the Restaurants hands too for that matter. That was the case at the lovely Ben’s Cornish Kitchen, in one of my favourite spots, Marazion. Located on the main street, just behind the Slipway, it is a vision of light wood, raffia chairs and clean white walls.

Bridge Bistro

4 Molesworth Street, Wadebridge PL27 7DA (Issue 42 - August 2010)
T: 01208 815342

Appearances can be deceptive, and the exterior of Bridge Bistro certainly doesn’t give anything away. Inside however, the high ceilings and tasteful décor are like a big hug to the hungry diner. Sleek furnishings, soft lighting and friendly smiles make for the start of a winning evening.

Cornish Arms

I love a pub. A good, honest, old fashioned pub, and in Cornwall we are lucky to have plenty of them. So when I heard that Rick Stein had taken the reigns at a typical example, I was filled with trepidation. Would it become another gastro misadventure? Would the hype turn it into a tourist trap? Only one way to find out….

Indaba Fish

Tabernacle Street, Truro TR1 4EJ (Issue 34 - September 2009)
T: 01872 274700

For once it was a fine evening and we were happily en route to Indaba Fish where we had booked a table to celebrate our anniversary. On the way we chatted about what we might like to drink and of course eat – and we decided that top most on our list would be a Campari and soda for an aperitif and half a dozen oysters each as starters washed down with a bottle of Chablis – the main course we would decide when we got there.

Kahuna Tolcarne

The April sun had to come to an end sometime, it was just my luck that it ended the night I decided to visit seaside eatery ‘Kahuna’ on Tolcarne beach in Newquay.

The day is finally here. The day I dine at the Porthminster Beach Café. With a renowned reputation for excellence it’s been on my wish list for a while now, along with those of the holiday makers who flock to its doors to enjoy the setting and inspired cuisine.

The Gurnard's Head

Nr Zennor, St Ives TR26 3DE
(Issue 39 - May 2010)
T: 01736 796928

One of my all time favourite driving roads is the stretch between St Just and St Ives. The moors meet the sea, and give some of the most stunning scenes in our county (and some of the worst examples of driving… you know who you are). It is also where you can find ‘The Gurnard’s Head’. It has long been on my ‘to eat at’ list and the news that they had a new Head Chef, Bruce Rennie, who had previously been Head Chef at a couple of Michelin Starred restaurants spurred me into action one sunny day this Easter.
